"I've bought two lots of 95/5 cotton jersey but they don't feel the same."
The fibres themselves may vary in weight and texture as they are spun into thread. This may mean that a lower thread count combined with a fatter thread ends up with the same cotton percentage as a higher thread count using a light weight thread.
This in turn can affect the texture of the surface. Chunkier more spaced thread will give more texture while lots of small threads will give a smoother finish.
All these elements affect the feel of your fabric the way it moves and the way it washes.
This is all before you get to the application of any design to the surface of the fabric. The printing and finishing process can again change the way a fabric feels.
So how do you avoid this?
When it comes to your core staples like your solid colours and your ribbing. Its best to find a fabric you like and stick with it. We stock a range of solid fabrics because we know not everyone likes the same feel and structure. This way you can choose the one you like and select the colours you need from within that range and get consistency every time.
